Obituary

Alan R. Stranyak passed away on February 13, 2021 at the age of 72. Loving husband of Barbara for 48 ½ years. Dear father of Kristen (David) Smith and Lisa (Brett) Emil. Proud grandfather of Joseph, Abigail, Kathryn, Samantha, Lucas, Elliot, and Julian. Dear brother of Julius (Valerie), Roger (the late Luz Maria), and the late Robert (the late Cary). Preceded in death by parents, Julius and Alma. Son-in-law of Irene Stepien and the late Ludwik Stepien. Brother-in-law of John (Carol) Stepien, Chris (Ellen) Stepien, Mark (Susan) Stepien. Godfather to Rob Stranyak, Laura (Muskett) Kurichh, Michael Stepien, and Angelika (Stepien) Cooper.  Beloved uncle and cousin.

For those that knew him, Alan was a fun-loving guy, quick with a joke and always put his family above all else. He spent his life giving to others, showing us a shining example of hard work and loving his wife, daughters and grandchildren endlessly.

Alan was a proud, lifelong resident of Dearborn, graduating from Edsel Ford High School in 1966 where he played his favorite sport, football. He loved being a Thunderbird and enjoyed teasing those from rival schools for many years.

From a young age, Alan loved everything about cars. Whether he was cruising Telegraph in his '57 Chevy as a part of the Roam'n Chariots classic car club or building his career in the automotive industry, he found endless enjoyment in his Motor City heritage. Even recently, he could describe in detail and with excitement, cars owned by his parents when he was a little boy in the 1950s.

Alan was proud to have served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam, and as a Veteran, he enjoyed helping other Veterans through his work with the DAV in Livonia. He made his family so proud and his grandchildren were thrilled when he would visit their school on Veterans Day.

Kind and friendly, Alan would give you the shirt off his back. He made everyone, even strangers, feel like a friend with his warm stories and laughter. Quick to the rescue if you had a flat tire or to help a daughter and her new husband learn to fix up their first home. He always made sure they knew how to do things right "the first time".

Always a kid at heart, Alan was eager to coach and even play on his daughters' softball team with all of their 20-something friends, a pastime that many cherish nearly 20 years later. He joined in the fun in the backyard kiddie pool with his grandchildren, taking up more than his fair share of space in the tiny pool while pelting the kids with a water squirter.

The world traveler during his working years, Alan most enjoyed his time at home. He was an avid reader and spent hours polishing his classic cars. He grew beautiful flower gardens with his wife and enjoyed playing on the floor with his grandkids.

Alan will be so greatly missed by his family and all those that knew him.

Private family services will be held. Interment at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI.

Memorial donations appreciated to the DAV (Disabled American Veterans) or the Wounded Warrior Project.
