Andre Askold Mykytenko, beloved husband of Jane Mykytenko passed away suddenly at home on Saturday, March 28th, 2026.
Born in Besancon, France in 1948, he was the son of Andre and Anastasia Mykytenko. With his parents, he emigrated to the United States of America in 1956, and became a proud American citizen.
He attended elementary school at Saint John's Ukrainian Catholic School in Detroit, Michigan during the early 1960's, and graduated in 1967 from the Immaculate Conception Ukrainian Catholic High School in Hamtramck, Michigan. Following High School, Andre pursued a Bachelor of Arts and a Masters degree. Proud of his education, he had degrees and certifications across a variety of subjects: Mathematics, Psychology, Science, Educational Counseling, Secondary Education, and Social Sciences.
Andre spent his adult career teaching in the Dearborn Public Schools (DPS) district from 1973 for over 25 years, where he met his wife Jane during their tenure at Bryant Middle School.
Married in 2013, Andre and Jane nurtured their son John and his wife Leah, daughter Carah, and grand-children Dexter and Cora.
Andre enjoyed culture and travel. Together with his wife Jane, they voyaged through Central Europe visiting their dream vacation destinations alongside revered family sites in Poland and France. They were delighted to visit friends and family across the globe.
An active member of the local Ukrainian community, Andre was thrilled to be a member of Camp Dibrova, a Ukrainian community in Brighton, Michigan. He participated in service activities and maintained many productive friendships. Moreover, Andre excelled in supporting the works of the Friends of the Dearborn Symphony Orchestra, the activities of the First Presbyterian Church of Dearborn, and the pride of his faith, St. Michael the Archangel Ukrainian Catholic Church in Dearborn, Michigan.
Andre will be remembered for his warmth, compassion, love, and thoughtfulness of family and friends. He was a beloved husband, step-father, cousin and teacher who encouraged and touched so many lives during his exceptional lifetime.
