Obituary

Ann Zarycki Hustick was born in a coal mining town in Pennsylvania in 1925 to Bertha and John Zarycki.  She was one of 13 children and the 4th oldest.  She left home at the age of 13 to become a nanny and a maid but had to send her money back to her parents so they could raise the 9 left at home.

She continued taking care of other people's homes and their kids, until she began working on airplanes during World War II.  After the war was over, she hopped a train with the boy next door, actually across the dirt road, Alex Hustick, and settled in Cleveland.  They married in a private ceremony in 1947 and in 1950 welcomed their first born, Alex (Sonny). Five years later in 1955 they had their surprise daughter Donna.

Ann worked hard her entire life and worked opposite shifts of her husband many times.  She took in her mother-in-law for many years and helped a few of her brothers to also settle in the Cleveland area.  She was always willing to help someone, whether it was immediate family, extended family, friends, or strangers.  She was compassionate, kind, loving and giving but you would know when she was upset or aggravated with someone or something. She was an advocate for women's rights.

After having been married for 63 years, Al left this earth and Ann continued to live alone for the next 7 years.  In July of 2017, she moved to Michigan into a retirement community.  She was so happy to finally have a dishwasher, a garbage disposal and still maintained her independence until she entered a nursing home on the campus in 2019.

Ann is survived by her son Alex, daughter in law Anna Marie, daughter Donna, son-in-law Jimmy, grandson Tony, granddaughters Alex and Joey, son-in-law Nick, 2 great grandchildren Jameson and Ashton, her brothers George and Andy in OH and sister Betty in AZ along with many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements for direct cremation entrusted to the Dearborn Location of the Howe-Peterson Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
