Obituary

Arthur Louis Mousseau left his family on earth on June 12, 2024. He is survived by his beloved Ilene, his son Rick (Rebecca), grandsons Joel (Rebecca) and Alex (Chelsea), great-grandchildren Eloise and Landon, stepson Randy DeHartogh, brothers-in-law Bill Livingston and Michael Relyin, and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marion, his parents, Roy and Louise, his sisters Carol (Jim) Copple, Joyce Livingston, and Bonnie Relyin, and a brother, Donald.

Art was born on February 28, 1937 in Wayne, Michigan, and spent his first few years near Alpena. He retained a love for that area of the state throughout his life. Art played football for Roosevelt High school in Dearborn, and graduated in 1954. During that time, he met and fell in love with Marion Shipp, an energetic and warm-hearted young woman. They married and had a son, Rick. Art was a skilled mechanic, and eventually worked for the Levy Corporation. He became a business agent for the International Association of Machinists Union, then returned to management in 1968. After leaving his corporate job, he became the co-owner of the Monte Carlo Bar in Dearborn Heights. After Marion's death in 2002, Art and Ilene found love and companionship with each other and were together until the end.

Art was an enthusiastic outdoorsman who especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. Every fall, he hunted deer during bow season and firearm season. A highlight of his hunting career was a trip to the western US to hunt elk with several friends and family members, where they camped, and rode on mules in the mountains. His godsons, Michael and Kevin, remember how Art taught them to tie a special fishing knot, and that knowledge has been passed down to their sons. Art loved sports, especially football. Many happy times involved attending Lion, Wolverine, and Michigan Panther football games with Rick, Joel and Alex. Art and Ilene enjoyed RV camping with friends and family, and he was never happier than when spending time near a campfire, exchanging jokes and stories with his extended family.

Born and raised in the Catholic faith, Art was a steadfast member of St. John the Baptist church of Dearborn Heights for many years. In his final years, no longer able to attend mass regularly, he found comfort in the prayers and tenants of the Church. Throughout his life, Art was grateful for the blessings he had. He found joy in the big things like weddings and birthdays, championship seasons, the birth of his son, grandsons and greats, and he celebrated those events enthusiastically. He also found joy in the small moments: spending time with family, a good meal, a cold beer, listening to a favorite song on the radio. His ability to find happiness in the simple things is his greatest lesson to us all. We will miss his smile and his optimistic nature, and most of all, we will miss his unconditional love.
