Audrey
Blanzy
October 27, 1933 – August 15, 2023
Audrey Blanzy, age 89, passed away on August 15, 2023. She was born to DeVaudree and Melvina (Chapo) Morris on October 27, 1933. She grew up with her 2 brothers in Detroit, graduating from St. Mary's of Redford High School in 1951. She received her bachelors in education from University of Michigan. She met her husband, Richard, while tobogganing at Rouge Park in 1951. They fell in love and married June 23, 1956. When Richard was drafted into the United States Army they relocated to Arkansas and spent 2 years in Fort Chaffee where she taught elementary school and they welcomed their first child. Through their 65 years of marriage, they had 6 children: GeAnne (Patrick) Geraghty, Richard Jr. (Julie), Jeffrey (Cassandra), Robert "Rocky" (Beth), Andrea (James) Kitchen and Julienne (Patrick) Desmet; 25 grandchildren: Christian, Adam, Dashia, Juan, Kira, Richard, Alexa, Ryan, Tara, Paige, Blake, Nicholas, John, Samuel, Brian, Hannah, Lukas, Jacob, Alyssa, Zachary, Elizabeth, Andrew, Donald "Alex", Patrick Jr and Abigail; and 7 great-grandchildren: Eloise, Anson, Luca, Cataleya, Dahlia, Olive and Eliana. Audrey was an elementary school teacher for 6 years. Once her 6 children came along, She decided to do volunteer work at St. Anselm school as a Great Books moderator and a cheerleading coach. Once her kids got older she decided to go back to work as a bartender and manager at Sylvia's on the Green with her sister-in-law. Eventually, she decided to return to education as an admissions counselor at Specs Howard School of Broadcast Arts. At the age of 80, after 30 years of employment, she retired in 2013. She then volunteered at Providence Hospital in the surgical waiting room. Audrey enjoyed reading, doing Sudoku and crossword puzzles, and loved shopping trips with her daughters and granddaughters. Attending sporting events or recitals for her kids and grandkids was a priority and she hated to miss one. Audrey and Richard loved taking the family on vacation. Summers were spent camping at Interlochen and Otsego Lake State parks where Audrey played her ukelele and sang around the nightly campfires. Christmas breaks were spent skiing and sledding up north. Easter breaks were spent camping in Florida for sun and fun. So many fond memories were made on those family adventures that will be forever cherished. She and Richard continued traveling together to many places including Hawaii, Spain, Italy, Croatia, Hungary, Slovakia, Austria, Germany and the Netherlands. Besides her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she is survived by her brothers, Robert (Leona) Morris and Lawrence (Bernadette) Morris. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, and parents, DeVaudree and Melvina Morris. She was a very special woman. Throughout her life, she touched countless lives and left lasting impressions on all of them. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
