Rahmel
August 1, 1933 – April 17, 2024
August Henry Rahmel passed away peacefully on April 17, 2024 after a brief illness. Born in Detroit on August 1, 1933 to August and Anna (Borchardt) Rahmel, Gus graduated from Mackenzie High School in 1951 and enlisted in the Coast Guard. He was stationed in Portland, Maine and Boston, Massachusetts and traveled all over the Atlantic. While in Boston, Gus was able to attend the Boston Symphony Orchestra every Friday night which brought him a lifelong love of classical music. After his service, Gus graduated from Detroit Institute of Technology as a Business Major and the South Joy Beauty School with a certification in Cosmetology. He worked for many years at the Frank Collins Beauty Salon in Dearborn. Gus enjoyed playing word games, cards, and watching old movies,
Gus is survived by nieces Mary Lou (Geoff) Pernicano and Katy (late Stephen) Porter, grand nieces Amy Tuohey, Katy Tuohey, and Emma Pernicano, grand nephews Brian (Chris) Tuohey, Joe (Margaret) Tuohey, John Porter, and Dan Pernicano, great grand nephew Alexander Jarvis, and great grand nieces Madelyn Jarvis and Mara Tuohey, as well as dear friends Fran Vega-Myatt, and Gina and Harry Salsberry. Gus was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved sister Loretta Rahmel, his brother Henry Rahmel, sister-in-law Molly (Mott) Rahmel, and niece Susan (Michael) Tuohey.
At Gus's request, there will be no service but private prayers are appreciated.
