Obituary

Aurora D. Barretto

June 22, 1949 – February 14, 2026. Aurora Barretto was called to heaven to be with the Lord and her dear late husband on February 14th, 2026. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family. Beloved wife of the late Jose Barretto and devoted mother to their three children; Catherine (David) Sanchez, Carl (Carie) Barretto, and Chris (Falon) Barretto. She was a cherished Lola to her ten grandchildren; Samantha, Emilio, Abigail, Audrey, Annabella, Maleah, Dominic, Jonah, Eloise, and Macario.

Born in Manila, Philippines, to the late Macario and Eugenia DomDom. She excelled in school and went on to university to study accounting. After marriage and starting her family, Aurora courageously immigrated to the United States with her husband and young children. She spent time here with relatives to establish a life for Jose and the kids when they arrived a year later. From there, she along with her husband, did all that they could to provide a wonderful life for their children.

How fitting it was that Aurora was called home on Valentine's Day. Her love for her husband of 50 years was immeasurable. They met in High School and were married twice in one week, the first a civil ceremony on November 17th followed by a catholic ceremony at Guiguinto Church on November 25th. The two of them continued to spend their lives together for the next five decades, even working at the same company for many of those years.

Aurora and her husband loved to travel, visiting places like New York City, Chicago, and driving the coastline of Michigan. While their kids where young, they spent many weekends together as a family in Toronto visiting with close family friends. During the week they would attend many sporting events for their kids and then later in life for their grandkids. When it was just the two of them, they would try their hand at the casinos and most of the time luck was on their side.

Aurora especially liked to cook delicious Filipino foods for her family, friends, and neighbors. She made the best "crappers," and her pancit and flan were delicious! She enjoyed teaching her family how to make her favorite recipes hoping to pass on those traditional foods that she was so fond of sharing. She especially enjoyed cooking during the holidays which she loved celebrating so much.

She was a huge fan of "A Chorus Line," "The Phantom of the Opera," and "The Sound of Music." Aurora could be heard singing the songs from these movies as well as other songs throughout the year. She loved watching Hallmark and Disney movies with her family but her two favorite movies were "When Harry Met Sally" and "Sleepless in Seattle."

Lola, as her grandchildren lovingly referred to her, cherished each one of her grandkids and enjoyed watching them grow and flourish. They were the best part of her golden years. Helping to care for them while they were young brought her great joy and she spent countless hours creating found memories playing, coloring, cooking, singing, and loving on them.

Aurora will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched but especially by her family. Until we see you again, rest peacefully, Mi. The  family will hold a private service.
