Barbara
Mcgregor
October 29, 1940 – April 2, 2023
Barbara Marie McGregor (Dienes)
October 29, 1940 – April 2, 2023
Barbara McGregor of Riverview, Michigan passed away on April 2, 2023, with her family by her side. Barbara was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother (gigi).
Barbara married her high school sweetheart Larry in 1959. They welcomed their first child Robert in 1960 and Christine in 1961. Although she had various part-time jobs outside of the home (one of which was a switchboard operator at Security Bank & Trust), her main role was that of homemaker.
Barbara was always there to support her family whether it was cheering Rob on from the stands, out "pounding the pavement" with Christine looking for that perfect homecoming dress, or being very involved in the activities of her grandchildren. Her number one priority was her family.
In between raising her family, she enjoyed spending time with her extended family. Many afternoons were spent visiting and sipping tea with her cousins or working on sewing projects with her mother and aunt. Barbara was a lifelong "crafter" which included quilting, basket weaving, ceramics, and needlework, just to name a few. She was also a good and loyal friend and throughout her life, accompanied many on whatever journeys life threw at them.
Barbara was a fantastic cook and her recipes and favorite dishes will live on when the family gathers for Sunday dinners and holiday celebrations. She was also a little bit of a rule bender when it came to bedtime with her grandchildren and they all have many memories of staying up late at grandma's watching Johnny Carson. Barbara loved animals and believed "every pet needs a friend" and there were always two dogs "palling around" the house. Barbara was also quite the shopper and loved putting together gifts for her family that always included a few items from QVC.
Through Barbara and Larry's hard work and determination, they were able to enjoy many years of retired life, including 20+ years wintering in Venice, Florida where they met many life-long friends. The life they built in Venice will be a part of their family for many years to come.
Barbara is survived by her children Rob (Peggy) McGregor and Christine (Jeff) McCarthy; grandchildren Emily (Jeremy) Bezzo, Sara, Evan, Claire & Alec; and great-grandchildren Vivienne, Evelyn, and Lincoln.
Visitation will be Monday, April 10 from 1-8 pm with a rosary service at 7 pm. at J.L. Peters Funeral Home, 3880 Fort St., Lincoln Park (313-928-6500). Instate Tuesday, April 11 at 11:30 am with Mass at 12 pm at Christ the Good Shepherd Church, 1540 Riverbank, Lincoln Park.
