Bernetta Ann
Adams
August 21, 1934 – August 23, 2022
Bernetta Adams of Taylor, Michigan, passed away on Tuesday, August 23 rd , 2022. She was born August 21, 1934, to Johnnie and Cleo Dickerson, and gratefully celebrated her 88 th birthday with cards, phone calls, and special visits from her extended family. Her dear sons were by her side through many months of health difficulties and hospitalizations. She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, and her presence and generous nature will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Bernetta lived in Taylor all her life and enjoyed 52 years of marriage with her husband Roosevelt (Whitey) Adams, who preceded her in death in 1994. Together they raised four children, and Bernetta was a working mom who retired from Plasteel Corporation as a machine operator. She was a petite woman, but very hard working and strong-willed.
She is survived by three sons: Bruce Adams, Nick (Nancy) Adams, and Philip (Ashley) Adams; grandchildren: Bruce Allen, Sean, Amy, Nicholas, Morgan, Nikki, Crystal, Ashley, and Kyle; twenty great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Jackie, sisters Barbara, Betty, Penny, Kitty, a grandson Ryan, and her only brother Calvin (Bud) Dickerson, just six months ago.
Whitey and Bernetta enjoyed traveling and family camping trips. He was born in Kentucky, so they visited there frequently during their years together. In later years, Bernetta traveled to Hawaii, California, Florida, and spent many special weekends in Nashville, Michigan with her brother and sister-in-law, Bud and Judy, enjoying boat rides and great home cooking. Bernetta drove her sister Barbara to many family reunions in Indiana and Kentucky. She also loved the cruise she did with her friend Gloria. Bernetta had an excellent sense of direction – her own built-in navigation system. If she went somewhere just one time, she could always find her way back and would include descriptions of landmarks when giving directions to someone else. Crippling arthritis eventually slowed her down but didn't stop her.
Bernetta loved animals, and always had a dog or cat, sometimes both. Her home was always open to family and friends, and she loved the holidays when kids and grandkids would congregate. She was also proud of her son Philip's membership in the Zulus Motorcycle Club of Detroit, and they were present at her husband's funeral. She loved all the guys, and loved going to their Christmas party every year. She liked to crochet, and many friends and family members still enjoy the beautiful, cozy afghans, slippers, and decorations that she gifted to them. She also had a lot of fun playing bingo and occasionally trying her luck at casinos, including several trips to Las Vegas. She was a thrifty person, and an enthusiastic bargain hunter at resale stores and garage sales. Her local Dollar Tree was also a favorite shopping destination.
The family would like to extend a thank you to Bernetta's loyal friends. A very special thanks to Brooke, Diane, Kim, and her neighbor Donna, who were so helpful in her last year, providing physical assistance, many great meals, and companionship.
Visitation will be held Saturday, August 27, 2022 and Sunday, August 28, 2022 from 1:00-8:00pm located at Howe-Peterson Funeral Home Taylor Chapel 9800 S Telegraph Rd. Taylor, MI 48180. Interment will be at Michigan Memorial Park Cemetery in Flat Rock, MI.
