Betty A. Butler

Betty Ann Butler, age 82, a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully in Riverview, Michigan on September 17th, 2026. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Betty dedicated much of her early adulthood to raising her six children and instilling in them the strength, independence, and values that would guide them throughout their lives.

Betty’s faith was an important part of who she was. She regularly attended St. Constance Catholic Church, where she cherished the friendships and fellowship she found there. After church, she enjoyed going to lunch with her friends and looked forward to attending the church festivals with her sisters, Tina, Leona, and Debbie. When her children were young, Betty found time to help with housekeeping at Our Lady Gate of Heaven Church alongside her daughter Cheryl, giving generously of her time and energy to her church community.

In her younger years, Betty enjoyed ice skating and the simple pleasures of spending time with family and friends. As her children grew older, she began working at Target, a job she took great pride in and approached with the same dedication she brought to everything she did.

Nothing brought Betty greater joy than her grandchildren. She treasured spending time with them every weekend and especially loved playing dolls with them. Her love of dolls continued throughout her life, and she had a special fondness for china dolls of her own. She also enjoyed playing bingo at American House, listening to her beloved Motown music, and dancing. She held a special place in her heart for Coco, her daughter Jackie’s dog, whom she adored.

Betty’s greatest legacy is the love she gave to her family. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her children, Jackie (the late Jack) Bales, Kim (Mark) Ackerman, Cheryl (Amjad) Yousif, Jim (Lisa) Gould, and Frank (Yvette) Jones; her siblings Leona and Debbie; and her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her immeasurable happiness and whom she loved dearly.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Elizabeth Monit, her sister, Tina, her brother, Bobby, and her daughter Denise Deppen.

Betty leaves behind a lifetime of memories—of family gatherings, church celebrations, music and dancing, weekends spent with her

grandchildren, and countless moments of love and laughter. Her faith, strength, devotion, and love for her family will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. 

Visitation for Betty will take place on Sunday, September 20th, 2026 beginning at 1:00pm at the Taylor location of the Howe Peterson Funeral Homes and Cremation Services. It will continue until her Rosary at 7:00pm. A funeral Mass will be held on Monday, September 21st at 10:00am at St Constance Catholic Church in Taylor, Michigan. Betty will be in state prior to mass beginning at 9:30am. Her burial will follow at St Hedwig Cemetery in Dearborn Heights, Michigan.
