Obituary

Betty June Rougeau (nee LeFevere) passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 15, 2020 at the age of 81. Loving wife of the late Earl Gerald "Jerry" Rougeau. Dear mother of Faith (David) Jasmund. Proud grandmother of Christin (Michael) Kelty and David Jasmund. Great grandmother of Mariah Jane Jasmund, Draven Alton Jasmund, and Silas Charles Kelty. Also survived by many nieces and nephews and sister-in-law, Jean LeFevere.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Nelson and Donna LeFevere, and brothers Richard and Donald (Betty) LeFevere.

Betty was born and raised in Garden City, Michigan. She had 2 older brothers, Richard and Donald, who she loved dearly. She often spoke of all the fond memories growing up in Garden City surrounded by neighborhood friends, 1 of which was her best friend Myrna, who she stayed in contact with her whole life. She enjoyed tap dancing as a child and there are several photos showing her smiling in her dance costumes. She graduated from Garden City High School, where she played saxophone in the Marching Band. She had a brief marraige which resulted in her only child, Faith Lynn. She raised Faith on her family's property with her parents, Donna and Nelson. Both Richard and Donald raised their families on the same property, so they were often together as their children grew up. She met the love of her life, Jerry, while they both worked for Montgomery Wards. They both worked there for 25 years before retiring. She worked in the cash office while Jerry sold appliances at the Livonia store. Both Betty and Jerry were avid bowlers and rolled on many leagues over the years. Betty was a member of a geneology club where she spent many years researching her family history. She enjoyed vacationing by the ocean and went on many trips, including one to the Bahamas. Jerry passed away ten years ago and Betty had to make some big adjustments living alone, which she had never done. She adopted a cat, Angel, which was her constant companion. She had dear neighbors, Frank and Joanne, who lived across the street and were willing to help her whenever she needed it. More recently Toni, Frank's sister, started helping Betty and also looked after Angel while Betty was in the hospital. She also found Angel a forever home after Betty's passing which is an amazing thing.

Anyone who really knew Betty knew that she documented everything! She saved every receipt and kept everything in binders labeled with the date and other information. She also journaled every day. Reading her entries of everyday life showed just how important keeping track of things was to her. Her last entry was at the Supported Living apartment just a few weeks before her passing. She wrote, "One of the most important days of my life was the day I met Jerry...things were better then." Her last weeks and maybe even months were not so pleasant but all of that is over now. The hard times are done. She is with the Lord.
