Bill J.
Moylan P.E.
June 1, 1931 – April 1, 2025
William J. Moylan P.E., affectionately known as Bill, died peacefully in his sleep on April 1st, 2025. Bill was passionate about many things, including his family, electrical engineering (including substations), analyzing & fixing any home repair problem (which typically included spending time at his beloved garage workbench), cruising around on his sailboat, getting people to the dance floor to dance a jig with him & drinking Manhattans with sweet vermouth & a few bourbon soaked cherries.
Bill grew up in Detroit, graduating from Detroit Catholic Central in 1949. He was later drafted into the Army Signal Core during the Korean War. Upon discharge, he worked for Ford Motor Company while attending night school at the University of Detroit Engineering College. Upon graduation, Bill was hired by Detroit Edison as an Electrical Engineer. In 1974, he decided to venture out on his own & started Moylan Engineering, Inc. He was consulted on many important projects for the City of Detroit & was afforded many opportunities to travel. As a result, Bill saw the world with trips to Africa & China forever holding a special place in his heart.
Bill was more than an accomplished business owner, he also earned the title of "Fellow" with the Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He was very proud of this accomplishment & cherished attending their conferences around the world as well as assisting others who sought the prestigious "Fellow" designation. His desire to help others did not have an end.
Catholicism was a focal point of Bill's life. He attended Mass daily. He loved to share his strong faith with others so he started a prayer list. Each day he would reach out to a small group of people and ask "Is your envelope ready?" This was the signal that Mass was getting ready to start & you had better get your requests organized & over to him so he could present them to the Lord. After Mass, he let those individuals know their intentions had been presented to the Lord during the consecration. He truly believed he could make an impact & help people with whatever issues may be weighing them down.
Bill is survived by his wife of 37 years, Andrea Ketten, his children Mary Caruso, Laura (Larry) Mullins, Joe (Sheryl) Moylan, Sean (Kelly) Moylan, daughter-in-law Karla Moylan & step-daughters Sandi (Sean) Youngren & Lori Lynn Mesko, & many grandchildren & great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son Dan, first wife Anna (Nancy) Tait & son-in-law Dave Caruso.
To know Bill was to love him. He had a witty sense of humor & deeply cared about people. He loved life & wanted to pull others into his happy world. While we are deeply sad at his passing, we want this time to be filled with wonderful memories & viewed as a celebration. Let's raise a glass & dance Bill to heaven as we know he has many loved ones awaiting his arrival.
