Carol Ann
Kalat
January 1, 1949 – October 25, 2022
Carol Ann Kalat was born on January 1st, 1949, to Clarence and Virginia Seasor. She passed away on October 25th, 2022 after a long battle with serious health issues. Carol was raised in Flat Rock, Michigan. She married her longtime husband, Roy E. Kalat, in 1979 and moved to a house on Edison Street in Dearborn, Michigan. Carol and Roy were well known fixtures of the Edison street community, being active members in neighborhood events. Carol and Roy were very social people, often entertaining with large gatherings at their home. They were often the social hub of their large group of friends, and they rarely met a stranger they did not become friends with throughout their life. They lived together on Edison Street for nearly 4 decades. For many years, they also maintained a vacation home near Mancelona in their beloved northern Michigan, quickly becoming part of the social community of the area and supporting many local charities and events.
For most of Carol's career, she was the owner and operator of Hair On Wheels, a cosmetology service for the infirm and homebound, offering important self-care services to those in nursing homes, hospitals, and private homes, as well as the Autumn and Company Hair Salon in Westland, Michigan. As was usual, Carol made lifelong friends at work who became part of her family. She was deeply passionate about her businesses and only recently retired in 2021.
Carol's generous nature and outgoing spirit was all the more remarkable given the many serious health challenges she overcame in her life. She was diagnosed with Leukemia in 2000. Though she was able to beat the Leukemia into remission, the fight left her body very weak and fragile, leading to many years of serious health challenges that she faced with grace, humor, and a remarkable strength of character. Before his passing in 2017, Roy also faced serious health issues that required 24/7 care, which Carol, with help from Amy and Scott, took upon herself and cared for Roy at home.
After Roy's passing, Carol moved closer to Amy and Scott in Taylor, Michigan. Until her death, she was passionate about rescuing hard luck dogs, especially Dachshunds. She gave a great home to a number of senior dogs during this time. She also loved to spend time with her family and friends. She is survived by her brother, Tom (Gail) Seasor of Marshall, WI, her son, Andrew (Emily) Kalat of Marietta, GA, and her daughter, Amy (Scott) Richards of Taylor, MI, and a grandchild, Trenton (Rachel) Christian. A funeral service to honor her life will be held at 11am on November 19th, 2022, at the Howe-Peterson Funeral Home in Taylor, Michigan. Those wishing to honor her life can make a donation in her name to the City of Taylor Animal Shelter.
