Obituary

Carolyn Jean Koziol, 81, of Dearborn passed away peacefully October 10, 2019, due to complications from diabetes. She was born January 14, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan to Walter and Gertrude Seel.  In 1941, her younger sister and best lifelong friend Janet was born. Carolyn graduated from Detroit's Western High School and following her father's footsteps began working for the city of Detroit.

In 1957 Carolyn married Robert Allan Olson. They moved to Huron Street in Taylor, Michigan to start their family. They welcomed James Robert in 1961 and Robert James in 1966. Their relationship ended in late 1980s and Robert passed away in 1994.

Carolyn unexpectedly found her great love (right next door). In 1991 she married Joseph Koziol. She embraced the now grown neighbor children as her family - Jeffrey (Rhonda) Koziol, Kim (Bob) Dolan, Perry (Aimee) Koziol, Kellie Murphy and Scott (Stephanie) Koziol.

A cherished grandmother, her 13 grandchildren filled Carolyn with joy. Living nearby, she enjoyed a close relationship with Ashley (Gary) Rogowski and Trisha Olson (fiancé Bryan Copple). Her extended Koziol grandkids are now adults living in locations throughout the U.S.  She had great pride in Justin Koziol, Nikki Koziol, Paige Koziol, Brendan Koziol, Mary (Chris) Johnson, Abby (Alex) Petroff, Alex Dolan, Emily (Jeffrey) Last, Sean Murphy, Lilly Koziol and Andy Koziol. Carolyn was blessed to enjoy time with her great-granddaughters Kallie, Adalynn and Khloe.

Carolyn and her sister Janet raised their families near each other and made so many memories together. Carolyn was Auntie to Patti (Brian) Wysocki and their children Brittney and Nicholas as well as David (Denise) Rockett and their children Matthew, Adam and Renee.

A hard worker, Carolyn's career included many years of employment with Dr. Marrowa in a variety of positions including office manager. Upon retirement from her medical related career Carolyn began working at Green Field Village – her happy place. Carolyn greatly enjoyed meeting and talking to people from all over the world as a cashier at the gift shop. Upon retirement, she continued to volunteer at the Village the place she loved to show off to family, especially her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Carolyn loved to travel with Joe, family or friends. Locations she traveled to frequently included New York City, Las Vegas and Chicago. Her favorite mode of transportation was by train. She made the trip to Chicago by train many times and she and Joe enjoyed a cross-country trip by train to San Francisco to celebrate her 70 th birthday.

A faithful woman, Carolyn attended Southminster Presbyterian Church most of her adult life. She was active with the church as an Elder. She also enjoyed volunteering with organizations like Fish and Loaves where she again made friends while helping others.

Over the past two years she has resided at Beaumont Common retirement community in Dearborn and continued to make many new friends and enjoy her life.

Her parents, sister Janet and her late husband Joseph Koziol preceded Carolyn in death. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren survive her.
