With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a beautiful life well-lived, we announce the passing of our beloved Mom, Casimira Susan (Jakubiak) Lucas. She died peacefully at home on May 22nd, 2026, at the age of 95.

Born in Detroit on September 9th,1930, to Antony and Rose Jakubiak, she was the youngest of their five children. In 1951, she married Everest in a large Polish wedding (Big Fat Greek Wedding doesn't hold a candle to a Polish celebration!). Mom, a.k.a. Katie, was a lifelong caregiver, and built her life around our family, filling our home with the comforting aroma of her baking, her goofy humor, her endless patience and hugs--always the hugs. She read constantly and remained curious and engaged with her world including the Turkish or Chinese dramas she found on television.

Katie and Ev were charter members of St. Martha Parish in Dearborn investing sweat equity in the building of the church as well as the parish community. Faith-filled to her very end of earthly life, Katie was a member of St. Kateri in Dearborn, and an honorary member of St. Francis of Assisi in Ann Arbor, never missing Mass online. She was always putting others ahead of herself sacrificing her own time to pray for everyone else, and her wants for those of her family and her dear friends. Mom had great devotion to the Blessed Mother and we are certain that it is Mary, the Mother of God who came to escort Mom to Jesus.

Mom and Dad did a lot of camping via trailer and motor home; she frequently said she hated leaving home but she really just disliked the travel part. Once they arrived wherever they were headed, she enjoyed the place immensely. Katie and her best friend of over 60 years, Charlotte, could often be found taking an adventure, having a ladies' breakfast, or celebrating each other with the notorious "birthday box"! Gardening was a favorite pastime during most of Katie's life, and when she could no longer dig outside, she kept a manageable number of houseplants thriving.

She is lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her children: Susanne (Bob, deceased, Ray Dow, deceased) Redman, Martha, Theodore (Pamela), Mary Rose (Michael) Howard; grandchildren: Christina (Joseph) Grant, Catherine (Andy) Kay, Nathaniel Howard, Sarah (Josh) Peterson; great-grandchildren: Kaylin and Kyle, Elliott and Aurora, Mackenzie.

Katie was predeceased by her husband of 59 years Everest, her parents, four sisters, many many friends.
