Obituary

Chester (Chet) C. Salewske, 96, of Taylor, MI passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at his home in Taylor.

Mass will be held Monday, January 6, 2025, at 10:30 AM with In State time of 10 AM at St. Alfred Church in Taylor with Rev. Fr. Grayson Heenan officiating.  Visitation will be held Sunday, January 5, 2025, from 3:00-8:00 PM at Howe-Peterson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylor with the Rosary that evening at 6:30 PM.

Chet was born October 27, 1928, to August and Mary (Sanford) Salewske in Detroit, MI.  He attended Southwestern High School in Detroit. Chet married Cecelia Demko in 1966. They raised two sons: John and Steven.

Chet honorably served in the United States Navy from 1947-1950.  He worked at Standard Oil Gas Station where he met his future bride.  He then went to work for Marathon Oil from 1968 until he retired in 1994.  There he was an operator and eventually became a pump mechanic.

Chet loved his family and attended as many of his kids' games as could despite working swing shift.  In retirement, he continued the tradition and went to as many of his grandkids' games as possible.  He loved to golf and enjoyed watching all sports, but his favorite was Michigan Football.  He attended games at the Big House for many years and enjoyed tailgating with his friends. Chet and Ceil loved to travel and took 23 cruises, including to Hawaii, Alaska (with family) and Rome.

Chet is survived by his wife Cecelia of 58 years; his sons John (Mary) of Monroe, MI, Steven of Taylor; his grandchildren Thomas and Sarah Salewske.  Chet was preceded in death by his siblings Douglas, Marjorie, Warren (Sadie), Richard (Dorothy), Beatrice (John) Warden.
