Clara L. Helmer

Clara was born on Dec. 21, 1926 in Detroit, to parents William & Mary
Ellen Willsmore. Clara was the 8th child of 13 children born to her
parents. All have passed on thru the years except Clara (91) and her
sister Helen (92). Now Helen is the only one left of the 13 children.

At the age of 16, in 1943, she married Manley Paris. He was serving in the
Navy and was killed in WWII 6 months later. In 1949 she married Robert
Helmer and they had 3 children: Gloria, Joseph & Scott.
After separating, Clara worked in many different occupations, Nurses Aid,
Live In Care for Elderly, Retail jobs and Hairdresser. She enjoyed going
to church and fellowship with other people with strong faith, playing the
piano & guitar & singing, walking, riding her bike and working in her
flower gardens... but most of all, she enjoyed her family and spending
time with children, grandchildren, great-grand children and her siblings.
She lived in Dearborn Heights for many years and moved up to Gladwin to be
near her daughter the last part of her life. She was a Breast Cancer
Survivor for many years and recently battled Breast Cancer for the second
time and suffered from Alzheimer's.

She is survived by Sister: Helen Mezeros, Daughter: Gloria (Steve) Voss,
Son: Joseph (Bonnie) Helmer, Grandchildren: Shelly Voss-Kury, Shannon
(Terrie) Voss Westfall, Jessica Helmer and Robert (Katie) Helmer, 3
Great-grand Children: Mackenzie, Joshua and Cassandra and many Nieces and
Nephews.

Preceeded in death by her Parents: William & Mary Ellen Willsmore,
Siblings: William Jr, Albert, Hannah, Madeline, Margaret, Herbert, Jane,
George, Ivy, Doris & Ruth and her Son: Scott Helmer.

A memorial gathering will be held June 2nd from 1:00-3:00pm with a memorial service at 3:00pm located at the Taylor Chapel of Howe-Peterson Funeral Home, 9800 S. Telegraph.
A dinner in Clara's honor at LaPita, 22681 Newman in Dearborn will be celebrated immediately after services. Please RSVP to Gloria if you plan on attending by phone 989-860-1364 or email gnsvoss@ejourney.com.
