Daniel J O'Brien sadly passed away on March 15th, 2021 at the age of 93. Loving husband to Josephine for 67 wonderful years. Beloved father to Mary (Kevin Wofford) Miilu, and Michael (Nancy) O'Brien. Cherished grandfather to Kayleigh (John) Hamilton and Jessica Miilu. Dearest uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Dan was born in Detroit, Michigan on November 15th, 1927. His family moved to Michigan's upper peninsula and he spent some of his childhood years in Hancock, Michigan with his mother and siblings. He proudly served in US Army during the Korean War and was stationed on Okinawa.  After returning, he married the love of his life Josephine Montante in 1954. They built a life together in Taylor, Michigan where they made many life-long friends.  They remained in the neighborhood surrounded by the best neighbors ever! The family took up camping and joined The Highway Satellites, where their love of camping grew. When Dan retired from Ford Motor Company after 23 years, they continued to camp and spend their winters in Florida.

Dan loved many things, one of his favorites was watching Michigan football, the Wings, and the Tigers; win or lose, he was always a fan. He had a huge heart for all animals and loved when his grand dogs would visit. He once had a chipmunk eating out of his shirt pocket and had daily visits by a neighborhood squirrel that would perch on the fence and wait for food to be hand fed to him. He loved summer, a perfect day for Dan would be drinking a long-neck Budweiser on the patio and tending to his garden. His biggest love, though, was for his family. He was especially happy and proud to attend his granddaughter's wedding in October 2020. Those who were lucky enough to have known him remember him as a kind-hearted man with great stories, a sharp mind, and a memory no one could match. He will be greatly missed.

A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday April 7th, 2021 at 11am with a 10:30am in-state at Our Lady of the Angels Church (6442 Pelham Rd, Taylor, MI 48180). There will be a private interment with Army Honors at Great Lakes National Cemetery in May of 2021.
