Darlene
Moore
January 29, 1938 – March 18, 2026
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Gwen "Darlene" Moore, who left her earthly home on March 18, 2026, surrounded by family and friends. She is now reunited in Heaven with her family and our Heavenly Father.
Darlene was born on January 29, 1938, in Bell County, Kentucky, to Omer Lester Cheek, a coal miner, and Ruby Golden Alley Cheek, a devoted homemaker. She grew up with strong values of faith, family, and hard work that she carried throughout her life.
While in school, she met the love of her life, Edward Glen Moore. After she graduated, they were married on June 23, 1956, in Detroit, Michigan, beginning a beautiful journey together that spanned 51 years. They moved to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1957, where they began building their family. Their son, Jeffrey Glenn Moore, was born in 1960, followed by their daughter, Lisa, in 1963. In 1965, they settled in Dearborn Heights, Michigan, where they planted deep roots.
Darlene started as a postal worker, where she was one of the first carriers to drive a 3-Wheeled truck and she was notorious for taking the corners too fast and almost tipping. Later she was hired at Profile Steel and Wire to manage the front office, working there for 25 years, leading to her retirement in 1998. She faithfully served her community alongside her husband, she was deeply involved in church life. They joined Gilead Baptist church, where they taught young married couples for many years. Later, they became members of Temple Baptist Church, continuing their ministry by teaching Harvester classes. They eventually joined Beacon Baptist Church of Taylor, where Darlene remained active in her faith and fellowship, including participation in the Red Hat Ladies.
Darlene was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She loved her family deeply and cherished the many trips and memories they shared. She and Glen especially enjoyed Sunday drives, playing dominos, and serving together in their church, always eager to share the Word of God.
Her greatest joy came from her growing family. She was blessed with three grandchildren: David Glen Moore (1990), Lauren Elisabeth Swanson (Steward) (1991), and Kaitlin Brooke Moore (1994). She later welcomed three great-grandchildren: Samuel Severin Swanson (2018), Saul Warren Swanson (2020), and Scout Edward Swanson (2025), each of whom brought her immense pride and happiness.
In 2020, Darlene moved to Cadillac, Michigan, to be closer to family. In 2025, she moved in with her daughter Lisa and Son-In-Law Jeff, and was neighbors with her granddaughter Lauren grandson-In-Law Severin and great-grandsons Samuel, Saul, Scout where she continued to be surrounded by love and care. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Cadillac where 4 generations of her family attended.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Edward Glen Moore; her son, Jeffrey Glenn Moore; her father, Omer Lester Cheek; and her mother, Ruby Golden Cheek.
Darlene "Gooie" is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Lisa (Jeff) Steward; her grandchildren, David Moore, Lauren (Severin) Swanson, and Kaitlin Moore; and her great-grandchildren, Samuel, Saul, and Scout Swanson. She is also survived by her sister, Lou (Joseph) Sucher; her niece, Kelly (Bob) Jasper, along with Avery and Grace; her nephew, Joe (Jeanne) Sucher, along with Nathan, Natalie, and Joseph; her cousin, Georgia Cheek; and many dear friends. The family also extends heartfelt gratitude to her loving caretakers, Ciera, Tasha, and Jill, for their compassion and care.
