LOVELAND, David Burton. Passed away on May 16, 2015 due to complications of Alzheimer's disease. He was born on July 25th, 1932 in Wyandotte, Michigan and was the child of Burton E. and Loretta B. Loveland.
David graduated from Ecorse (MI) High School in 1951 and the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy in 1955. After graduation, he worked in and became co-owner of the Loveland's Pharmacy in Ecorse until the store was sold in 1973. He then became a pharmacist at Herman Keifer Hospital in Detroit, Northville Regional State Hospital and later for Wal-Mart & Sam's Club Pharmacies. He also worked part-time at Dasher Drugs in Wyandotte (MI). He retired as a pharmacist in 2010.
He was very passionate about service work and contributing to the betterment of others throughout his life. He was involved in the sport of rowing for over 50 years with the Ecorse Rowing Club and the Detroit Boat Club as a competitor, coach, officer and boat man, and was a Canadian Henley High School Champion in 1951 for Ecorse High School. David was also very dedicated to the cause of substance abuse rehabilitation where he contributed his discovery of the use of taurine in addiction recovery to leading researchers for further study. Later in life he became devoted to the cause of child abuse through involvement in Exchange Clubs in Lincoln Park, Canton and Livonia.
David was married to the love of his life Hazel Fayne (McCoy) Loveland on August 20, 1955 until her death on May 10, 2010. He is the survived by sons Dr. Jeffrey David Loveland (Kathryn) of Woodstock, VA and Dr. Robert Brian Loveland (Michelle) of South Lyon, MI, daughter Cheryl A. Hammond R.N. of Tampa,FL, grandchildren Joshua M. Hammond, Sarah E. Hammond, Brian J. Loveland, Alexander D. Loveland, Robert S. Loveland, and one great grandchild Liam M. Hammond. A sister, Ruth Allen of Southgate (MI) also survives.
He is predeceased by his parents, wife and brothers Donald E. Loveland and Warren C. Loveland.
Family and friends will be received at J.L. Peters Funeral Home, 3880 Fort Street, Lincoln Park, MI 48146 (313- 928-6500) on Monday 1:00p.m.-8:00p.m. and Tuesday 1:00p.m.-8:00p.m. Mr. Loveland will be Instate at Lincoln Park Presbyterian Church on Wednesday at 10:00am, service will begin at 11:00am. Interment will be a Michigan Memorial Cemetery, procession will begin at JL Peters Funeral Home at 2:30pm.
