COLBERT, DONALD
Donald V. Colbert, 74, of Dearborn, passed away unexpectedly at Beaumont Oakwood hospital on Wednesday, April 26, 2017.
Don is survived by his wife Nancy, sons Michael (Tonnya), Matthew (Charlotte) and daughter Marcy (Charles Jerore). Grandfather to 12 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, Uncle to many nieces and nephews, great uncle to Macsen.

Grandfather to Blake (Amanda), Cherell (Marc), Brandon, Alyssa (Mike), Amberlee, Christopher, Callie, Emily, Kevin, Charles, Nathan and Zachary. Great grandfather to Leilani, Ryan, Evelyn and William. Uncle to many nieces and nephew, great uncle to Macsen.
Don was born March 16, 1943 in Detroit, to parents Vincent P. Colbert and Marion Wright and was the oldest of two children; brother the late Michael Colbert (Kathie). After graduating from Redford High School in 1961, he proudly enlisted in the United State Marine Corps and served in the Vietnam War. Following his service in the Marine Corps. Don became a driver for the United Parcel Service. He worked for the UPS for 30 years before retiring.
Don was passionate about his antique radios, his handy man work, The Knights of Columbus and volunteering. As a board member of the Michigan Antique Radio Club, he spent more than 35 years collecting, selling and restoring antique radios. He traveled to and hosted many antique radio events over the years and he owned over 150 antique radios. While enjoying his retirement, Don became a local handy man and helped as many people as he could. He was a generous man with his time and attention and a very caring individual. He was an active member of the Knight of Columbus where he served as a Warden and helped with the dinners at St. Patrick's Senior Center, the corned beef dinners at the hall and enjoyed having coffee with his friends many days during the week. He was a dedicated parishioner of Sacred Heart Church where he volunteered to deliver food baskets during the Holidays, delivered donated coats and VA collections and serve at the mother daughter brunches and pancake breakfasts.
Don will forever be known for his dedication to his family, passion for the Marine Corps., fun loving personality, generosity and his compassion for others.
Visitation will be on Sunday, April 30th, from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Dearborn Chapel of Howe-Peterson Funeral Home, 22546 Michigan Ave.
The funeral mass will take place on Monday, May 1st, at 11:00 AM (instate 10:00 AM) at Sacred Heart Church of Dearborn, 22430 Michigan Ave.
Memorial contributions may be made to Karmanos Cancer Institute.
