Donald F. Nelson of Dearborn Born December 27, 1946, in Decatur, Illinois, Don passed away July 30, 2015. Don lived much of his childhood in Alma, Michigan but was a graduate of Memorial High School in Houston, Texas and Southern Methodist University where he earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering. Don became a resident of Dearborn over 45 years ago when he joined Ford Motor Company in 1969. While at Ford, he also earned an MBA from Eastern Michigan University. Don is survived by his beloved wife Janet, his children and grandchildren, his mother, Lois and his sister Nancy. Visitation on Tuesday, August 4th from 2 to 9 at Howe-Peterson Funeral Home in Dearborn. Service Wednesday 11 am at Cherry Hill Presbyterian Church. Don was an active volunteer with Dearborn Boy Scout Troop 1147 for over 20 years, mentoring hundreds of boys and young men, particularly in water safety and swimming certification. An actively involved alumnus of Southern Methodist University, Don also served as a Detroit-area outreach alumni recruiter.
