Donald J.
Vlcek, Sr.
November 20, 1925 – March 28, 2020
Donald J. Vlcek, 94, of Dearborn, MI, passed away on Saturday March 28, 2020 from complications due to the Corona Virus.
Born November 20, 1925 in Cicero, IL, he was a very avid hunter, fisherman, and golfer late into his 80s, and bowled in tournaments and in at least two bowling leagues a week in his earlier years.
He served in the Army Air Force as 2nd Lieutenant, stationed in San Marco's, TX just as World War 2 came to an end.
He was a Life Member of Cicero-Berwyn (now Brookfield) Elks Lodge #1510, and Harsen's Island Waterfowl Assn., and was a longtime member and sponsor of various wildlife habitat organizations, such as Ducks Unlimited and St Clair Flats Waterfowlers.
His career was comprised of Office Manager for Marhoefer Foods in Chicago prior to that company being purchased by Hygrade's, which promoted him to Systems & Procedures Manager, causing his move from Berwyn, IL to Dearborn. After leaving Hygrade's, he was Controller for Popps, Inc in Hamtramck, and wound up his career at Lombardi Foods.
Retiring in 1988 allowed him to hunt, fish and golf on weekdays, and most importantly, watch the Chicago Cubs baseball games, live. The Cubs fulfilled his lifelong dream by winning the World Series in 2016. He loved going hunting with his two black labs, Charlie 1 and Charlie 2.
Don leaves behind his wife of 71 years, Rosemarie Emily (Krizek), son, Donald Joseph Vlcek Jr (Margaret Morse), three grandchildren - Suzanne Mae Lee (David), James Donald Vlcek, and Victoria Rose Schultz (Brandon), nephew Joseph J Krizek, grand nephew Joseph D Krizek (Leah), two grand nieces, Cindy Check (Bob) and Julie Anderson (Kirk), and two great grand nieces, Katrina and Chloe Anderson.

"Death is nothing at all...I have only slipped away into the next room. I am I , and you are you. Whatever we were to each other , we are still. Call me by my old familiar name, speak to me in the easy way in which you always used. Put no difference in your tone; wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without effort, without the ghost of a shadow on it. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was; there is absolutely unbroken continuity. Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am waiting for you for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner. All is well." (Henry Scott Holland)
