Doris Marie
Barnes
March 12, 1937 – July 8, 2021
Doris Marie Barnes was born in Florence, Alabama on March 12, 1937.
After spending her childhood in the south, she moved to the north where she attended Southwestern High School in Detroit in 1949. This is where she met the love of her life, Max Barnes. After Max won over Doris and her affections, they were married and built a life together and were blessed with three daughters; Diane, Lynn, and Denise. Family was the center of their lives, they were always surrounded by friends that were like family and continued to build the Barnes family circle with so many extensions and unlimited love, including the founding of the Highwaymen Motorcycle Club from Max.
Doris had a life filled with hard work and play. She retired from General Motors 1986 to operate B&W Leasing, a trucking company she founded 2 years prior to her retirement from G.M.
While not working, Doris was very active with the Detroit Highwaymen MC as Max Barnes wife. She became known as the "GODMOTHER'" of the club. Doris was the only woman ever to receive an honorary club recognition of Lighting Rods. There are many stories and adventures that Doris could tell. She was part of this history.
Doris' personal history leaves behind a legacy. One of being an extraordinary woman of strength, kindness, and generosity. She was the Matriarch and Rock of her family that includes 3 daughters, 12 Grand Children, 21 Great grandchildren, 1 Great Great Grandchild, and she is survived by nieces and nephews. She was surrounded by family and passed away peacefully in her home. Her family was never limited to only blood. She was a friend to all. She had shared her heart and shined her light to so very many. Doris will live on in our hearts and memories forever.
