Obituary

In loving memory of Dorothy Ann Flynn (Kern)

Born: May 8,1930

Passed Away: March 17, 2025

Dorothy Flynn was a beloved sister, wife, mother & grandmother, born and raised in Detroit, Michigan by her loving parents, Alfred and Anne Kern, along with her four siblings, Betty, Mary, Larry, and Margie. She is a graduate of St. Mary's of Redford Catholic School, where she met her wonderful husband, John. She worked at the Catholic Chancery in Detroit and Nash Motors. Her faith and her family were at the center of her world, and she was at the center of our world.  She lived much of her life at her current residence in Taylor, Michigan, a home purchased with her husband, John E. Flynn, Jr. in 1955, where generations of Flynns have been loved and raised. Her home was a place of joy, gatherings and so much love for the family. Her love of music, food, and being together is well- documented and organized in many photo albums.

She is survived by her children Mary Ann Fardig, Karen Burke (William), Kathy St. Pierre (Joe), and Michael Flynn (Robbi), 12 grandchildren (Amy and Danny Fardig, Lauren Fardig-Diop, Cheryl Hilliker, Todd and Paul Grace, Brad, Jeff and Brock Burke, Heather Busch, Sarah Venner andRachel Robert) and many great-grandchildren who knew her as Great-Grandma, Oma, Gigi and Gram.  She is legendary for her sunny disposition, for encouraging everyone to relax & eat, and for her passion for singing her way through life's storms.  All four of her surviving children were able to surround her in love during her peaceful transition.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews of the Kern and Flynn families, as well as many friends, neighbors, and church community members who fondly knew her.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, John E. Flynn, Jr., her daughter Maureen Sieminski, her son, Thomas Flynn, and son-in-law Don Fardig.

Dorothy and John were devout Catholics and original members of St. Paschal and later St. Constance Catholic parish families. Whether she was singing in the choir, playing the organ, watching her beloved Detroit Tigers, making family dinners, playing with her grand or great-grandchildren, or making sure everyone was fed and happy, Dorothy will be missed for her genuine care for others.
