Obituary

Douglas Barton Evans, age 87, passed away peacefully on May 9th, 2026 in Dearborn, Michigan.

Douglas was born in June 21st, 1938, in Akron, Ohio to George and Ada Evans. Douglas spent his early childhood in Ohio before moving to Mount Vernon at the age of 10. He graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1956 and proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1962.

Following his military service, Douglas attended The Ohio State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education in 1966. He began his professional life as a teacher before pursuing a successful career in the restaurant industry, serving as both a manager and district manager. Never one to shy away from new opportunities, Douglas explored many different career paths throughout his life, including becoming a real estate broker and working for the State of Indiana.

In 1973, Douglas married the love of his life, Connie, in Columbus, Ohio. Together they built a loving home and raised their two sons, Ian and Joshua. In 1988, the family moved to Michigan, where Douglas fulfilled a longtime dream of managing his own restaurant.

Douglas’ faith was central to his life. He faithfully served his church as both a Deacon and Elder and dedicated countless hours mentoring young people as a Commander with the Royal Rangers. He took great pride in helping his sons achieve their goals, including earning their Gold Medal (Eagle Scouts). For more than 30 years, Douglas also led a Bible study group in the family home, where many friendships and lifelong memories were formed.

In later years, Douglas and Connie moved to Henry Ford, now Allegria Village, where he became well known for his active spirit, competitive nature, and joyful personality. He proudly won trophies in bocce ball, cornhole, and Wii bowling, and enjoyed countless games of pinochle, spades, and euchre with friends and neighbors. He especially treasured the close-knit group of friends affectionately known as “Doug’s Divas.”

Douglas is survived by his beloved wife Connie; his sons Ian and Joshua. He is preceded by his brothers Jack and Quintin. He will be remembered by many dear friends and extended family members whose lives were touched by his kindness, leadership, humor, and unwavering faith.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
