Edward James Blanch

Age 91.

Beloved husband of Marilyn, for 66 years.

Loving father of Susan (Paul) Meister, Edward (Connie) Blanch, Karen (Trevor) Page, Mary (John) Smyth, and Ellen Blanch.

Proud grandfather of Katherine & Carolyn Meister; Colleen & Edward Blanch; Claire, Jacob & Alexander Smyth.

Edward devoted his life to his wife and family.

In state Monday, June 26, 2017, 8:30am with Funeral Mass at 9:00am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 22430 Michigan Avenue, Dearborn, MI.
Visitation Sunday, June 25, 2017, 3:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. with Rosary at 7:00 pm at the Dearborn Chapel of the Howe-Peterson Funeral Home, 22546 Michigan Avenue.
Interment, Mt. Kelly Cemetery , Dearborn.

Edward was born in Utica, NY to John Edward and Clara (Jenny) Blanch.  Brother to Marie (Red) Kearney, Monica (Bud) Dickinson, Jack (Dolores) Blanch, and Sister Joan Blanch. Uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Due to his exceptional mathematical aptitude, Edward attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY on a full scholarship, earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering and the academic award Tau Beta Pi, the oldest engineering honor society.  Later earned an MBA from Harvard Business School in Cambridge, Mass.

Edward served as a US Navy Li eutenant i
n the Pacific theater a board the destroyer US S Dyess.


Later employed as an engineer by Carrier Corp.  Among other duties, he supervised the installation of air conditioning equipment on the roof of the J.L. Hudson building in downtown Detroit.

Later employed by the Ford Motor Co. from 1953-1987.  Rose through various positions in Finance and Operations, including Vice President of Finance. Retired as Chairman, Ford of Europe.  In retirement, served on the Board of Directors for local hospitals, including Oakwood and St. John's.

Edward and Marilyn were longtime residents of Dearborn, MI, before moving to Ann Arbor, MI in 2015.  They have been devoted parishioners at Sacred Heart Church in Dearborn, MI since 1954.
