Obituary

Edward "Ted" Smith, 85, of Dearborn Heights, Michigan, passed away on May 27, 2022. Ted was born in Ecorse, Michigan to Edward and Lillian Smith and grew up with his brother Dan. In his youth, he enjoyed the outdoors and spending time deer hunting with his father. He attended Roosevelt High School in Ecorse. His father passed away when he was 16 and Ted had to get a job to help support the family. He started out as a truck driver at Kohn Engineering where the owner took him under his wing and taught him how to run screw machines. He left Kohn for a job at Lincoln Park Screw Machine (later Horizon Screw Machine) where he retired as the longest tenured employee with 42 years of service. He was gifted a new Ford Bronco for his tenure and accomplishments.

When Ted was 17, he met the love of his life, Sandra Harvey, at Cindy's Drive Inn on Van Born Road in Dearborn Heights. They fell in love and got married in 1959 and spent their honeymoon at Niagra Falls. Two years later they started a family, complete with Julie and Mark. As a family, they enjoyed spending time with Sandra's family boating and fishing at a cabin on Lake St. Clair and snowmobiling throughout Michigan. Ted also enjoyed spending time in his garage building and fixing things, as well as playing horseshoes with his neighborhood horseshoe club. After retiring, he loved spending time caring for his grandchildren. Being a kind and dependable husband, father and grandfather was of the utmost importance to Ted, and he certainly did not disappoint when it came to wholeheartedly loving his family.

In addition to Sandra, Julie (Dave) Kile and Mark (Mary) Smith, Ted is survived by his brother, Dan Smith; grandchildren: Steven (Paige) Smith, Maranda (Dylan) Cawley, Lauren Smith (Garrett Simon); and great grandchildren: Michelle and Mila Cawley and Olivia Smith. He was preceded in passing by his parents Edward and Lillian Smith.
