Obituary

Elmer J. Vargo (April 24, 1921 – December31, 2020)

Elmer J. Vargo, 99, of Dearborn, Michigan, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord on December 31, 2020.  He was a loving husband for 75 years to his late wife Ethel.  He is survived by his three children:  Kathleen Yesh, Linda Read and David Vargo (Sheila Collins); granddaughter Jennifer Wallace (Scott); grandson Peter Vargo; and great-grandsons Avery and Alder Wallace.

He was a tinkerer, handyman, and skilled craftsman who spent countless hours helping within his church community, St. Paul Lutheran Church, and his residential community, Henry Ford Village.  He was a self-taught artist in stained glass and wood carving.  He lovingly crafted hundreds of pieces in each medium that he gave to so many friends, family, and acquaintances.

In his earlier years he enjoyed being a Scoutmaster of Troop 1178.  Elmer, with Ethel as copilot, traveled thousands of miles together in their Airstream trailer, crisscrossing the country.  Elmer spent his working career with the Ford Motor Company, Metal Stamping/Tool & Die division.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 21915 Beech Street, Dearborn, MI 48124, or to a charity of your choice in his honor.

Funeral services will be PRIVATE.  Due to current restrictions and health considerations, the family anticipates holding a "Celebration of Life" service at a future time when it is safe to travel and gather.
