Eric K. Soule

Jan 23, 1950 — Oct 4, 2026

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Eric “the Souleman” Soule who left us on October 4th, 2026. Eric was born on January 23rd, 1950. Eric is survived by his family including his wife Susan, two children Carla (Mike) and Eric Jr. (Morgan), four grandchildren Liam, Logan, Brayden, and Emma, five siblings Karen, Andrea (Ron), Gary (Nancy), Cheryl, and Pam (Jim), and numerous nieces and nephews.

Everyone who knew Eric would agree he was a caring person who liked to do things his own way. He had his own sense of style, which often included some type of zebra-striped pants with fluorescent colors. He loved to meticulously tend his grass, spending countless hours manually pulling weeds from his cultivated zoysia lawn. Eric had a fortitude to instill fairness, a quality that made him an ideal referee in many sports he officiated, and a good dad to let the officials at his kids’ sporting events know when they (may have) missed a call. Refereeing was also where he met his wife, Susan, who he called “Susie” affectionately. Susan always knew when to elbow Eric in the side when his passion for cheering on his kids got a little too overzealous. His love for his Susie was something special. He supported her without question. They enjoyed being together golfing, bowling, watching Detroit sports teams, and simply enjoying each other’s company.

Eric had a unique impact on everyone who met him. His generosity and support for others have left an immeasurable imprint on so many. Please join us in remembering all of the positive memories of Eric and the numerous ways his legacy has impacted us for the better. He will be missed greatly, but will always remain in our hearts.

Friends and family are invited to gather and honor the life of Eric. Viewing will be held on Monday, October 12th from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m.  A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 13th at 10:30 a.m. All services will be at Howe-Peterson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, located at 22546 Michigan Ave., Dearborn, MI 48124.
