Smith, Eugene P. Age 94. September 14, 2014. Married to Clara for 71 years. Loving father of Eugene L (Suzanne). Proud grandpa of David (Kristen) and Christie. Great Papa Gene of Joseph, Abigail, and Kathryn. Served in the Army in World War II, rising to the rank of Captain before embarking on a 60 year teaching career. After obtaining his PhD at Ohio State University, Eugene became department chair in Mathematics Education at Wayne State Univeristy where he taught for 30 years, followed by 10 years as adjunct professor at Univeristy of Michigan-Dearborn. Past president of National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. Memorial service Saturday 11:00 am at First Presbyterian Church, 600 N Brady Rd, Dearborn. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions requested to Karmanos, Ohio State University, Wayne State University, or First Presbyterian Church of Dearborn.
