Evelyn (Sweeney) Foren, 85, of Dearborn, dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, died Monday, Dec. 12.

She was a fiercely proud and devoted mother/grandmother/great-grandmother who was deeply loved by her many family members for her values, sense of humor, and honesty. She and husband, Jack, were also wonderful role models for their 64-year marriage.

She met Jack at Western High School in Detroit and they married when she was 19 and he was 21. The marriage would thrive until his death at age 85 in 2015.

She oversaw the household while he became a detective with the Dearborn Police Department.

She was most proud of being matriarch of her increasingly large family and of enjoying her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include daughters, Debbie Bechtel (Mike); Karen Foren Lake; and son, John (Teri Banas). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Amanda Vasas (Mike); Andrew Bechtel (Jackie); Katie Bechtel; Edward Lake III; Alex Lake; Jeffrey Lake; Erin Lake; Julianne Lake; Alicia Foren and Adam Foren. She delighted in her great-grandchildren August Vasas and Catalina Bechtel. She maintained a very close relationship with her sister Copie, who remained a devoted caregiver. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack.

Friends may visit at the Dearborn Chapel of Howe Peterson Funeral Home, 22546 Michigan Avenue, Dearborn, from 3-8 p.m. on Tuesday and 9-11 a.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
