Floraleen
Doughty
October 21, 1922 – August 27, 2019
Floraleen Doughty passed away August 27, 2019 age 96.
Beloved wife of the late James Elvis. Loving mother of Linda (David) Park and Steven (Nancy Ellen Adams). Proud grandmother of Spencer Hathway and Jackson Adams. Predeceased by her parents, Rena Mays and Zachariah Taylor Burleson and dear siblings, Marion Taylor Burleson, Purvie Burleson, Vurgle Francis Burleson, Delie Grace Tessens and Annie Mae Cagle. She also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews.
Floraleen, or Flo as she preferred to be called, was often complimented on her beautiful fashion sense, with her sharp suits, perfect hair, and polished nails. She had outward loveliness but it was her inner beauty which made her unforgettable. Flo shared her droll sense of humor, ability to tell a witty story, and gifts of fresh vegetables from her garden with an inner circle of friends. Her family and relatives were always graced with her delicious desserts and meals that she enjoyed making as much as they did eating.
As a devoted mother, Flo made sure her husband, daughter, and son were always loved and cared for. She was constantly present and available to do whatever her family needed. She was always in attendance at the countless band concerts, school programs, and many other events in which her children were involved. Most important, Flo instilled a love of God in her children and exemplified service to Him through her actions and faithfulness.
Flo loved to spend time in her garden where she grew many flowers and vegetables. Her favorites were her beautiful roses, especially the Peace variety. She continued to share a love of gardening with all of her five siblings. With every visit to a brother or sister in Michigan, Missouri, Alabama, or Florida, the tradition of discussing and admiring the gardens continued.
Flo loved her home and was content to spend most of her time there, yet she treasured the times when loved ones visited. She had a special place in her heart for animals and took great joy in having her family's pets stay with her. After being spoiled and catered to by Flo, they never wanted to go home!
Floraleen was a one-of-a-kind woman that embodied the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson:
"The purpose for life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well."
Our dear Flo, you lived well. We love you and we always will.
There will be a memorial celebration for the family in the fall.
