Kacirk, S.M., Rev. Raymond J., age 80 of Dearborn Heights, Michigan, died September 6, 2010 at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. Born April 13, 1930 in Cleveland, Ohio, son of the late Frank and Mary Wopperer Kacirk. He is survived by his brother, James Kacirk. Father Ray entered the Society of Mary and professed first vows on August 22, 1948 in Beacon, N.Y.; perpetual vows on August 15, 1952 in Dayton, Ohio and was ordained to the priesthood on July 19, 1959 in Fribourg, Switzerland. He graduated from the University of Dayton in 1951 with a B.S. in Education and from Ohio State University in 1965 with an M.A., as well as a law degree from Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan in 1982. Fr. Ray taught at high schools in Covington, Kentucky; Dayton, Ohio; and Cleveland, Ohio; and Kalamazoo, Michigan as well as Fulda, Germany. From 1970 to 1973 he served as an administrator at the Holden House in Lansing, Michigan. From 1973 to 1990 he served as the Director of the New Way Inn residential facility in Lansing. In 1992-1993 he was an instructor at the Judson Eagle Program in Detroit. For the last several years of his life he served as a chaplain for both Hospice at Ford Medical Center and the Knights of Columbus. In the last year and half of his life he even served as a chaplain for the Youth Group at St. Alfred Catholic Church in Taylor, Michigan. A Memorial Gathering will be held at Howe-Peterson Funeral Home on Friday, September 10, 2010 from 6:00-9:00pm. Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7pm followed by a Scripture Service, followed by a Chalice Presentation and a Memorial Mass at St. Alfred Catholic Church at 11:00am on Saturday, September 11, 2010. A Funeral Mass will also be held at Queen of Apostles Chapel in Dayton, Ohio on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at 7:00pm with burial at the Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio.
