Retzloff
April 11, 1922 – August 5, 2019
Frederick Retzloff, age 97, passed away August 5, 2019 at his home in Taylor surrounded by his loving family. Cherished husband of 20 blissful years to Dolores. Proud father of Fredrick Retzloff, Judith (Bob) Gorski, Sherry (the late Jim) Newsom, Sharleen (Ralph) Wisler, and Michael (Kathie) Nichols. Dear grandfather of Ben, Holly, Anne, Jon, Bradley, Laura, Aaron, Melissa, Kevin, David, and Jessica. Caring great-grandfather of 9. Treasured brother of Donald, Alan, Glen, Joan, Virginia, Norman, and the late Gus. Preceded in death by his parents Gust and Ethel Retzloff and his 1 st wife Kay.
Frederick lived an adventurous and beautiful life. He entered into service for the United States Navy shortly after high school and served valiantly for 3 years. He was stationed on the USS Maddox during that time and survived an intense bombing assault that capsized the ship. After floating adrift in the Mediterranean Sea waiting for rescue and a a stay at a military hospital, Frederick was ready and rearing to get back out and defend his country. He went on to become a lineman for Consumers and retired from 30+ years with DTE. He also made time to serve his community at Transfiguration Lutheran Church before it changed location. Frederick was a proud member of the Taylor Masonic Temple and the Washtenaw Sportsman's Club. Fred was an incredibly talented sharpshooter and gun aficionado. He won national championships as a marksman and even made his own bullets. Above all, he was a devoted family man and will be missed greatly by those with the privilege of knowing him.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 8th from 2-8PM with a Masonic service at 7PM. Funeral Friday, August 9th at 11AM with military honors. All services will be located at the Taylor Chapel of Howe-Peterson Funeral Home.
