Gary John Donahue 1952-2026

Gary John Donahue, 74, of Taylor, Michigan, died in Detroit, Michigan on August 12, 2026.

He was born in Detroit on February 14th, 1952, to parents Elizabeth Joyce and John William Donahue. He attended school in Taylor, acquiring his GED and 2 years of college. He worked as a welder, silk screener and janitor throughout his career.

Gary loved camping, especially in the Porcupine Mountains in the UP. He was a big fan of science fiction novels and had an extensive collection of music, with the Beatles being his favorite. His most-liked Beatle was George Harrison and his favorite Beatle song was "If I Needed Someone". He loved dogs, especially his German Shepard, Blackie. He spent many years as the primary dogsitter for Hannah Banana, cousin Terri's dog until they moved to Florida. He helped prepare a newsletter for the Taylor Garden Club for 15 years and developed a good friendship with the editor Mary Krzeczkowski.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents John and Elizabeth, sister Colleen Donahue. He is lovingly remembered by his former wife Theresa Cline and her two children Raymond and Michelle Atwood.Gary leaves behind his brother Michael (Lyn) Donahue, sister Patricia (Stan) Price, Aunt Phyllis Kovach, nieces Courtney (Mike) Vigrass, Erin (Bill) Lee and many cousins, grand nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for Gary and Elizabeth Donahue will take place Saturday, September 26th at 11:30am at Our Lady of Hope Cemetery in Brownstown, MI. Please meet inside the gates prior to 11:30am. A luncheon at The Sandtrap restaurant in Riverview, MI will follow.
