Gary Douglas Whitney, age 77, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026. He was born on July 31, 1948 and lived a life marked by deep faith, dedication to family, and a profound love for God's creation.
Gary was the beloved husband of Kathy Whitney and a devoted father to Brian (Dawn) Whitney. He was preceded in death by his cherished son, Joseph Whitney. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Jace, Brenden, Daryn, Hailee, Alexandria, Kerstyn and Natalie, and a joyful great-grandfather to Salem Whitney. Gary is also survived by his brother David (Ruth) Whitney, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins who will fondly remember him.
Gary earned a Bachelor's degree in Education, reflecting his passion for learning and teaching others. He dedicated more than 40 years of his professional life to BASF Corporation, where he was respected for his intelligence, strong work ethic, and integrity.
An avid outdoorsman, Gary felt closest to God while hunting, fishing, and spending time in nature. He viewed the outdoors as one of God's greatest gifts and took great joy in sharing those experiences with his children and grandchildren. A highly intelligent man, Gary loved passing down his knowledge, life lessons, and faith, always pointing those he loved toward God. His strong Christian faith guided every aspect of his life and was the foundation of his character, decisions, and love for others.
A memorial service celebrating Gary's life will be held at Metro City Church in Riverview, Michigan, on Thursday, January 29th at 6:00 p.m.
Gary's legacy of faith, wisdom, hard work, and love for family will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
