George Peter Savatsky passed on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at the age of 97. A Memorial Service will be held at The Dearborn location of the Howe Peterson Funeral Home, 22546 Michigan Ave. 48124 on Friday, December 13, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. Memorial gathering Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Surviving family members include his brother, Peter Savatzky, his children, Kathy Savatsky (spouse Bob Reynolds), George Savatsky (spouse Monika Savatsky), and Charles Savatsky (spouse Rumi Terao), six grandchildren, Lauren Zulinski (spouse Nick Zulinski), Leslie Reynolds (spouse Carl Simna), Peter Savatsky, Julia Savatsky, Tom Savatsky, and Lydia Savatsky, great-granddaughter Sabrina Zulinski and many nieces and nephews throughout Canada. Mr. Savatsky was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, grew up in Windsor, Ontario, and moved to Detroit with his wife Mary Lillian Lynn (Cantelon). George earned a B.A. in general science from the University of Western Ontario, a Master of Education from Wayne State University, and a Master of Science of Mathematics from the University of Michigan. During his teaching career of over 50 years, George has taught over 20,000 students with most of those years teaching in the Dearborn Public Schools - O.L. Smith Jr. High, Edsel Ford High School, and Henry Ford Community College. He retired at the age of 73. Throughout his life, George was physically active. He made the Windsor all-city football team as a tight end in high school and was on the football and wrestling teams in college. Until his hip replacement at 71, he went jogging daily and participated in 5k and 10k events with his children, Kathy and Chuck and son-in-law, Bob. His hobbies included reading, duplicate bridge, and travelling. He travelled annually to Germany to visit his son, George. He and his long-time friend and companion, Judy Custer, would also take side trips to France, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Hungary, Czechia, and Poland. He often traveled with Judy and her family to places like North Carolina, Mackinaw Island, the U.P. and Alaska. George Peter Savatsky will be greatly missed.
