George was born in 1926 in Detroit to his loving parents Antoni and Mary, first generation Polish immigrants. The family resided in Hamtramck for many years before moving to Dearborn where George attended Fordson High School. Following high school in 1945 George was drafted into the Army Air Corp entering WWII as an occupying force. Tours of duty included the Philippines and the Japanese Islands of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He was a aircraft mechanic specialist, maintaining B-29 engines. Later discharged and returned to Dearborn. In 1946 he began to work in the tool and die industry with his brother. In 1953 George married Joan Koss and started a family having one daughter and three sons. He eventually retired as a supervisor from Livernois Engineering but still remained very active. George was a devoted catholic and founding parishioner of Divine Child Parish as well as a member of the men's club and Boy Scouts. Member of the Knights of Columbus, 3rd degree, Patrick O'Kelly Council. George loved bowling, euchre, cards, casinos, fishing, vacationing at Burt Lake and the Shrine at Indian River, listening to classical music. watching the Red Wings and U of M football. He loved to travel, including cruises to the Caribbean, Hawaii and many European Pilgrimages. George loved to host parties in his basement bar with family and friends. He was extremely proud of his Polish heritage and cooking Polish food. He loved and adored his wife Joan of 61 years as well as his children. Funeral mass will be Saturday 10:00 a.m. at The Church of the Divine Child, 1055 N Silvery Ln, Dearborn, MI 48128. Gathering at church from 9:30 a.m. Visitation Friday 1-8 p.m. at the Dearborn Chapel of the Howe-Peterson Funeral Home, 22546 Michigan Ave. Rosary Friday 7:00 p.m. Interment with Army Honors at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Cemetery, Brownstown Twp. Mi. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association or Angela Hospice.
