Obituary

Shouse, George R., of Dearborn Born December 15, 1918 in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, he passed away May 18, 2013 at the age of 94. George was a graduate of Fordson High School and was one of Dearborn's longest-living residents. As a U.S. Army Corporal during World War II, George fought in the Battle of Normandy, the Battle of Northern France, and the Battle of Germany. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for heroism on January 1, 1945 after his gun position was attacked by enemy aircraft, causing serious injury to three of his four-man crew. George shot down a German ME 109 airplane and successfully aided in the evacuation of his wounded crewmen. On May 17, 1943 George married the love of his life, Eve Shouse in Lillian, Alabama. After the war, they moved together to Dearborn, where they raised their cherished children- daughter, Michael Tenglin and sons Stephen Shouse (Tess) and Roger Shouse (Lillian). George worked for Ford Motor Company for many years and upon retirement, worked at Dearborn Federal Savings until the age of 80. He enjoyed playing softball, golfing, bowling, and fishing. He was a passionate lifetime fan of all local Detroit sports teams, especially the Tigers. George was also very active in Boy Scout Troop 1111, where he was awarded the Silver Beaver for distinguished service to community youths and worked with the troop for almost sixty years. George was preceded in death by his beloved wife Eve, two sisters and two brothers. He is survived by his children, and many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Visitation on Wednesday May 22 from 5-8 pm at Howe-Peterson Funeral Home in Dearborn. U.S. military honor guard ceremony at 7 pm during visitation.
