Obituary

Georgia McPheron McConnell was born to Homer and Effie (Kilgore) McPheron on November 15, 1930 in Seco (Southeast Coal Operation), Kentucky. The fourth of five children she came between the only son and the baby girl.
Like a lot of folks born in the South, there came a time when Seco just couldn't live up to her big city dreams. Her friend Margie McConnell had a brother Buford who worked at Dodge Main. Margie's husband A.C. worked at Ford's Willow Run plant and Buford was taking Margie and their daughters to Detroit to see A.C. Georgia caught a ride with Margie and Buford and the rest as they say is history. Georgia went to work at Henry's Drug Store on Cass Avenue and Buford went to sweet talking Georgia. On September 1, 1951 Buford and Georgia hopped in Buford's Oldsmobile and drove to Angola, Indiana (THE wedding pot long before Toledo) where they were married. Buford and Georgia had four children, Deborah (Terry), Kenneth, Gary and David who survive Georgia. Georgia is also survived by her grandsons Michael, Shawn and Matthew, granddaughter Kayla, sister Rena Morrison and brother Jake (Buck) McPheron. Buford preceded Georgia in death, passing in 1999. Two sisters, Geneva Craft (Marvin) and Mary Ann also preceded her. A forty year member of Temple Baptist Church in Detroit, she ultimately had to move her membership to Victory Bible Fellowship when Temple Baptist moved out to Plymouth Township. Georgia loved the Lord and her family with her whole heart and never stopped seeing the good in everyone she met. There will never be another one like her! Georgia will be sorely missed by all who knew, her including a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
