Obituary

Gloria Gaye Depew-Kendrick sadly passed away on March 15, 2022 at the age of 70. Beloved wife of James Kendrick for 30 years. Loving mother of Mikel (Nichole) Wainwright, Kristi (Jamie Zywica) Wainwright, David (Malou) Kendrick, Sandra (John) McLean, and Stacey (Billy) Chapman. Cherished grandmother of Christopher, Anabel, Nicole, Jade, Jenna, Brandon, Joshua, Garrett, Corey, Martin, and Benjamin. Dear sister of Carol (Jerry) Fulner, and Bill Depew. Loving aunt of Tracey, Darren, Adam, Angela, and Andrew.

Gloria Gaye Depew-Kendrick was born on September 18, 1951. She graduated from Garden City High School in 1969. Gaye had many degrees in which she was very proud of. First, she got an Associates in Applied Science from Schoolcraft College and then got her Bachelor of Science from Ferris State University. She also earned her certification with the American Health Information Management Association. Gaye worked at a VA hospital and was the head of Medical Records at Straith Hospital.  She also taught medical terminology at Schoolcraft College and ended up starting her own Medical Transcription company.

Gaye got married and had two beautiful children: Mikel and Kristi. Later on, her and her first husband were divorced, and this allowed her to meet the love of her life, Jim. They were married on October 24, 1992 and would have celebrated their 30 th anniversary later this year. Jim and Gaye lived in Garden City for the first part of their marriage and then moved to a home on lake Neva. Next, they decided to move to a 10-acre property in White Lake, MI where they accumulated 14 horses, 10 chickens, 5 cats, 4 dogs, 3 sheep, and a cockatoo named Quazar. All of the grandchildren loved coming to grandma and grandpas house to come spend the day riding horses and walking through the trails on the property. Gaye taught all of her grandchildren how to tend to the animals and how to always find your way back to the house if you get lost in the woods. Jim and Gaye's dream was to travel the country. When they both retired, they put their belongings in storage, sold their farm, and hit the road. They went to many states, including Texas to see their son David and his family and spent every winter down in Arizona. After living in the RV for 3 years, it was time to find another home. They bought a beautiful cottage in Oscoda, MI right on Lake Huron.

Everyone looked forward to spending the day at grandmas. She always had carrots in the fridge so her grandchildren could feed the horses when they came over. The most famous thing in her house was her sheep cookie jar, which always had the best cookies in it. Gaye loved teaching. She would grab surgical caps and gloves from her work and pretend to perform surgery on stuffed animals with her grandkids. Gaye was everyone's favorite person. She loved children and animals more than anything. She was a devoted wife to Jim and loved him dearly. She was the best wife, mother, and grandmother anyone could ever ask for. She was selfless, always devoted to others and put herself last. You never saw Gaye without a smile on her face, everyone looked forward to seeing that smile and knowing that a huge hug was coming next. A part of our hearts will be missing now that she is gone. There will never be another person quite like her. She will be deeply missed.
