Obituary

Grover Payne, 83, of Southgate, MI went home to The Lord on January 10, 2013 at Oakwood Hospital. He died from complications after a stroke following cardiac surgery.

Born September 2, 1929 in Marshall, NC to Montgomery and Dorothy (Bailey) Payne. One of ten children Grover was predeceased by his brother Kenneth and sisters Azalee, Sadie and Univeve. He is survived by his brother Ward and his sisters Marie, Anne, Shirley and Willadean.

Grover was married in 1951 to Dessie Cutshall until her death in 1996. He is survived by his wife Nadine (White) Payne. Grover lived a life of love and service. He was a devout member of the Southern Baptist Church and earned the distinction of deacon at Gooddell Street Church in the 1960's. His deep love of music led him to a music ministry for senior citizens called "Gospel With Grover." There was always a cassette tape in his pocket so he could share the message of God's love through Christ with anyone he met.

Grover leaves behind his daughters Phyllis and Ed Wood, Linda Kerekes, Cathy and Mike Lewandowski and step-sons Rick and Jennifer White, Gary and Tania White, Ron and Jenny White, Larry and Brenda White & Danny and Julie White. He has fifteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
