Inez
Hice
April 23, 1923 – October 2, 2023
Inez Hice, of Dearborn, passed away on October 2, 2023 at 100 years old.
Loving wife of the late Harold. Dearest mother of Karen Zick and John (Laura) Hice. Proud grandma of Andrew (Melissa Kilgore) Zick, Anita Zick, Annemarie Zick, April Zick, Carrie Hice, and James (Dana Nelson) Hice. Great-grandma of Alexandra (Brandon Green) Zick, Andrew Zick Jr., Adrianna (Ameer) Zick, Xavier Zick, Katelynn Zick, Julie Schroeder, Claire Schroeder, David Zick, Lillyan Schroeder, and David Schroeder Jr. Great-great-grandma of Castiel and Josiah Green. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Gerda, a great grandchild, Michael, and her siblings James Albert and Irma Marilyn Vanderpyle who sadly passed away in their childhood.
Inez was born April 23, 1923, in Whitehall, Michigan to James and Gerda Vanderpyle. She attended Whitehall High School where she was in the marching band, she played the E♭ horn. She graduated as valedictorian of her class. She went on to Muskegon Community College and Western Michigan University where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in education. One of her favorite classes was a bird watching class where she and her classmates met as early as 5:00 am to go bird watching.
Her love for music continued as she became very talented at playing the piano and enjoyed classical music, such as Mozart and Chopin. Inez became an elementary school educator, teaching second graders in Battle Creek and Lindberg Elementary School Dearborn, and later serving as a substitute teacher for several schools in Dearborn. She was an amazing seamstress, sewing many clothes for Karen, and even creating suits for John from his father's old suits. Her love for sewing extended to crocheting, needlepoint, and quilting. Inez was very involved with her church; through the years she served on several committees, taught in Bible school, Sunday school, led adult Bible studies, and worked in the church library. Inez's true love and passion was her family; she is loved by many and will be missed deeply.
