Isabella
Ramirez
November 5, 1932 – June 3, 2021
Isabella Ramirez passed away peacefully on June 3, 2021. She was born in Eagle Lake, Texas in 1932. She was the youngest of twelve brothers and sisters in the Rios Family. She moved to Sandusky, Michigan at an early age with half of her siblings and they became seasonal migrant workers travelling throughout the state of Michigan. Eventually she and her siblings settled in the Detroit area. She was a part of Most Holy Trinity Corktown parish in the early 70s and volunteered with the Guadalupanos, Friends of the Family group, the secondhand Store for underprivileged families, as well as running the numerous Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter family dinners at Most Holy Trinity under the mentorship of Monsignor Clement Kern. Mrs. Ramirez helped to organize volunteers, donations of food and serving the meals to families during these holidays. She also obtained her GED and earned an Associates Degree from Wayne State University in the early 70s. She was a social worker in southwest Detroit employed at LaSed (Latin Americans for Social and Economic Development) in the 70s and early 80s, and helped numerous families settle into southwest Detroit. She became an interpreter at 36 th District Court and in other jurisdictions and continued to assist non-English speaking clients (well beyond her retirement age) to assist them at various courts throughout the State of Michigan. Later in the 2000s she became involved in being an advocate for immigration rights and policies and took part in numerous marches to DC and met with local leaders. Mrs. Ramirez was a parishioner of Most Holy Redeemer Church in southwest Detroit. She volunteered with numerous fundraisers, selling raffle tickets after Sunday masses for many events that Holy Redeemer held to raise money for the parish. She loved to chat and bully people into buying the tickets to help the parish. When she wasn't volunteering or organizing meetings, she raised her eight children in Detroit and was happy to see her grandchildren and great grandchildren as they arrived into the family. She was the Tia to numerous nieces and nephews, especially to Juanita Hernandez French and Miguel Hernandez, who were like her own children, and she took joy in all their lives as well. She is survived by her eight children: Linda Kayl, Ricardo Reyes (Vicky), Rojelio Reyes (Maria), Patricia Rathwell (Robert), Guadalupe Shartel (Stratton), Antonio Ramirez, Jr. (Nancy), Maria Barker, and Anne Ramirez. She is also survived by 21 beautiful grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Her beloved husband, Antonio Ramirez, Sr., predeceased her in 1982.
Funeral services will be held at Howe-Petersen Funeral Home in Dearborn, Michigan. She will be interred at Woodmere Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Holy Redeemer Church, Detroit, Mi, or to Henry Ford Hospice Care.
