Iva Louise
Green
June 14, 1937 – June 19, 2024
IVA LOUISE (MATHIS) GREEN
Iva Louise (Mathis) Green passed peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on June 19th 2024 at the age of 87 years old. Louise was born in Dearborn Michigan on June 14, 1937 and lived most of her life in the Melvindale/Dearborn area. She always went by Louise, explaining that she thought Iva sounded old fashion. Later in life, she came to realize that Iva was, in fact, a beautiful name.
Of her many accomplishments, her greatest joy was being a wife to her husband John, a mother to her five children, a grandmother to her seventeen grandchildren, and great-grandmother to her sixteen great-grandchildren (soon to be seventeen!). A simple joy in her life was to fix the morning breakfast for anyone who visited the family home or northern Michigan cabin. These breakfasts were legendary to all who were fortunate to be in attendance, especially her pancakes which had some secret ingredients (love?) that you just couldn't live without. This experience will be missed by all!
Louise also had other interests beyond her family, including bowling, casino trips, and caring for and loving the family pets, most recently her cats Shelley and Lizzy. She would go on for hours on the phone about her latest high score in bowling, how much she recently won at the casino; while reminding you she had a $100 loss limit. These activities brought her many lifelong friends who were there for her to the end. But her favorite part of the phone call was to provide an update on what was going on in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren's lives. Sometimes, she even mentioned a few things about her husband John. These updates will be missed by all!
Louise leaves a legacy that will be carried on by all those who loved her, especially in the hearts of her husband John, children John Jr. (Shirley), Rhonda Waynick (Randy), Kim Mynahan (Randy), Belinda Callihan (Ken), and Shannon Thomas (Rob), grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Louise was preceded in death by her father Toy Ray Mathis, mother Tennie Belle Mathis (Jeffrey), brothers Prentice, Edward, Don, stepsister Sue Hopkins, and stepbrother Charles Scott.
May her soul know the joy and peace in heaven that she displayed here on earth. Goodbye Louise, you were loved dearly by your family and friends.
