Obituary

Jack Hengtgen, a charismatic, energetic soul of 89 years young, left our world on June 3, 2024. Jack was a lifelong resident of Dearborn of Swedish German descent and blessed with the biggest heart. Loving husband of the late Margaret (Margie), he is joined by parents, Florence and Roy Hengtgen, his brother Marlyn, and sister Sandy. Jack leaves behind his children Mark, Jeannie, and Lisa, his daughter-in-law Bridgett, son-in-law Srinivas, grandchildren Jake, Josh, and Sanjay, sister Lavonne, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and countless friends who adored him.

Jack was brought up with a strong work ethic at a young age. One of his early occupations as a young man was working for the City of Dearborn, maintaining city trees and landscaping. To say he enjoyed playing and watching sports is an understatement. He loved playing hockey in the winter, attending Red Wings games, playing softball in the summer, and spending time at Tiger Stadium. A devoted Raiders football fan since the 1980s, Jack was always caught wearing his Raiders apparel and engaging in spirited discussions with fellow fans. Drafted twice, Jack served in the Army as an MP during his tour of duty in Arkansas and later as a Tank Operator in Germany. Following his Military service, he worked in a steel mill, McLouth Steel, for over 30 years. Additionally, Jack started his own tree trimming company, Jack's Tree Service, and attended Wayne
State University for two years. In his later years, he became an avid golfer and even ran his own golf league.
Jack would say the happiest eight years of his life were spent in retirement, spending winters in Las Vegas with his wife and friends. He loved playing craps and visiting the Sportsbook to watch horse racing.
Jack demonstrated his strength in humanity by continuously and selflessly practicing acts of kindness, striving to help those in need. His gift of humor, making others laugh even with the corniest of jokes, stays with you in the sweetest way even after his presence has faded. Jack will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives he touched. May his soul find eternal peace, and may the memories of his love, laughter, and kindness endure among those who knew him and for those he will meet in the afterworld.
