James Wilmer Cummer Age 89 of Dearborn Heights passed peacefully Wednesday March 16, 2022.

James was the Beloved Husband of Marilyn for 67 years.  Beloved Father of Mark, Nancy (Michael) Cochren, and Kathleen (Thomas) Starosciak.

Grandfather of Bryan Cochren (Dana), Caryn Cochren, Hilary Bassett (Steve), Stephen Cummer (Curtis) and Brianna Starosciak. Great Grandfather of Henry James Bassett and Lilian Grace Bassett.

Brother of Viola Davis,  Emma Hackler and the late Jean Geiser and Eleanor Driver.

James worked for Michigan Bell and AT&T for 39 years. He attended Atonement elementary school in Dearborn and Detroit Lutheran High School in 1950.

James loved to play softball, basketball and football. He was an avid outdoorsman, cyclist, backpacker, he loved gardening, family camping, and traveling out west.

James was a volunteer at Bay Cliff for over 20 years getting the camp ready for the kids to enjoy themselves for the summer. James also bicycled for the Make a Wish organization several years and for WAM which he rode over 300 miles on his bike to raise money.

James was a proud veteran in the US Army from 1952-1954 during the Korean Conflict.

James was an Elder and sang in the choir at St. John's Lutheran Church.

Family would suggest memorial contributions to go to St. John's Lutheran Church.
