James Louis
Kolak
May 31, 1949 – October 14, 2020
James Louis Kolak of Brownstown Township passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born on May 31, 1949 in Detroit, Michigan. He was the oldest of four and graduated from Lincoln Park High School in 1967. After High School he started working for Ford Motor Company. He joined the Marines and served our country during the Vietnam War. Jim married the love of his life, Shirley McKinney and together they had two children, Tracie and Matthew. He worked for 50 years at Ford Motor Company. He played competitive softball, was an umpire, and directed his own umpire association for many years. During his younger years, he enjoyed powerlifting, participated in many competitions and was a USMC Powerlifting Champion while serving his country. Jim was passionate about coaching high school football and baseball at Carlson High School and then later at Jefferson High School with his son Matt. Jim had a way with words, and he could always get players motivated. Those who had the honor of knowing him would describe him as the class clown, he would do anything to make others laugh and he could talk to anyone and everyone, he didn't know a stranger. Jim was a wonderful storyteller and his family and friends will cherish all his stories.
Jim is the beloved husband of Shirley. Loving father of Tracie Kolak (Stephen Manns) and Matthew (Renee) Kolak. Cherished grandfather of Brooke Rehl aka "Boo," Brittany (Koty) Perry aka "Booger," Lukas and Levi Kolak. Doting great grandfather of Emiree and Joslyn. Dear brother of Luann (Richard), Laurie (Calvin), and Tom and the brother-in-law of Theresa and Bob. Also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin on Saturday, October 17, 2020 from 2:00PM-8:00PM (with a funeral service starting at 7:00PM) at the Taylor Chapel of Howe-Peterson Funeral Home, 9800 Telegraph Rd. Family suggests memorial donations to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
