Obituary

Janet Ann Dickhudt entered into eternal life peacefully on February 20, 2024, at the age of 62 surrounded by love.

Born January 22, 1962, in Saint Paul, Minnesota, to Robert and Doris (Vrudny) Dickhudt, she was the second child of five. In addition to her mother, Janet is survived by her siblings David (Rose Yeo), Karen (Clay) Carrick, Daryl (Angela), and Dan (Laurie) and nine nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father.

Janet was born with an intellectual disability, but thanks to the determination and optimistic outlook of her parents and the grace of God, Janet lived a full life in which she impacted countless people positively.

Janet and the family lived in Hong Kong for eight years and Janet traveled around the world at least twice as part of that experience. Janet participated in church mission trips to Venezuela and was able to join her parents on travels to Europe, Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Australia and New Zealand, not to mention numerous family trips to various parts of the United States, usually to connect with extended family.

Janet loved going to church, participating in worship and listening over and over again to service recordings on her CD player. The pastors at her home church, Guardian Lutheran in Dearborn, were particular favorites over the years. Janet's Christian faith walk deepened when Guardian offered a confirmation class for people with special needs and Janet was confirmed in 2002.

Music and singing were a special part of Janet's life. "Jesus Loves Me" and "I am Jesus' Little Lamb" were special favorites. Other favorite home-based activities were coloring, making puzzles and playing games, especially Sequence for Kids. Janet did not read in a typical sense, but she loved looking at illustrated books or greeting cards she received and speaking aloud the story she could see depicted or the sentiments she felt were expressed there.

Janet loved animals, especially dogs, and usually the feeling was mutual. Brother Daryl shared how their family dog always perked up when hearing Janet's voice. Janet inherited a love of people and exercise from her father. While she was physically able, Janet would ride her three-wheel bike around the neighborhood and from time to time would make impromptu visits to neighbors.

But above all, Janet knew Jesus as her Savior, who died and rose again to forgive her sins and open the door to eternal life. We look forward to our reunion in heaven one day, when we will meet Janet again in her new heavenly body.
